THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD January 7, 2001 Seasonal prop EP II of Epiph Prop Gl Cr Pf of Epiph prop Roman Canon inserts Sol Bl 4 20: Is 60:1-6 Ps 72:2,7-8,10-13 Eph 3:2-3a,5-6 Mt 2:1-12 All nations are invited to sing the Lord’s praises for they have been called to hear the good news and worship the long awaited Messiah and King with the gift of their lives. |
EPIPHANY
First
Reading: Isaiah 60, 1-6
Isaiah speaks poetically of the coming of the
Lord. He describes how “darkness covers
the earth” but light and glory appear over God’s chosen people.
Second
Reading: Ephesians 3, 2-3a, 5-6
Paul tells the Ephesians that the Jews and
Gentiles are now co-heirs of the promises God has made. He explains that both groups are now members
of one body through Jesus Christ.
Gospel:
Matthew 2, 1-12
After Jesus’ birth, three astrologers from the
east came to Jerusalem and inquired about the newborn king of the Jews. King Herod became greatly angered, and asked
the astrologers to bring him more information about the child once they had
found him, so that he too could pay homage to the infant. However, Herod’s true plan was to kill
Jesus. The wise men were warned in a
dream not to return to him and they took a different route to return home.
PRE-BAPTISMAL CLASS The next Baptism Class will be held at 8:00 PM in the Church Hall on Monday, February 5th, 2001. Please call the Rectory to make arrangements.

We thank you for the many blessings You have given to us, as we work together here on earth to return to You.
Following the example of Jesus, Your Son, who came to be our model and companion in all that we do, help us always to remember in a spirit of faith we are only stewards of all gifts You have given us.
Grant us the grace we need to respond to Your love in a spirit of generous sacrifice that involves sharing with others unselfishly what we have earned as the fruit of our labors.
When Jesus returns in his glory
at the end of time, may those we have been able to help gather together with us
to celebrate forever the joys of eternal life.
In Epiphany we celebrate that “the light has come and the glory of the
Lord shines upon us.” Rise up in splendor and share the light of Jesus present
in you. Say yes to the call of the Lord
to the diocesan priesthood or religious life.

As we renew the pro-life struggle in this new year, we can appreciate
the words of Gandhi: “I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more
entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man”.
I SEE HIS
BLOOD UPON THE ROSE
I see His
blood upon the rose and in the stars the glory of His eyes; His body gleams
amid eternal snows, His tears fall from the skies.
I see His face
in every flower;
the thunder
and the singing of the birds
are but His
voice – and carven by His power
rock are his
written words.
All pathways
by His feet are worn,
His strong
heart stirs the ever-beating sea,
His crown of
thorns is twined with every thorn,
His cross is
every tree.
