The Lord is full of mercy and compassion, slow to anger and of great kindness.  He has come to search out and save what was lost.  Let us be more concerned with doing the Lord’s work than with idle speculation about when he will come again.

THANK YOU

Sunday, October 7, 2001

My apologies for not writing sooner to thank you and the youth group for the school supplies.  I consulted with a friend who is the executive director for “Community Ministries” and has been the grinding force in establishing the following: Homeless Shelter, Family Support Center for those a pay check away from being homeless, After School Program & Summer Program for children ages 6-12, Home Ownership Program, etc.  She asked if it would be acceptable if some of the items i.e. ballpoint pens, theme books, paper, could be given to those individuals her staff has been working with – who are now going to the local community college.  Most are single moms & they are literally pulling themselves up by their bootstraps.

The supplies will be given to children living in the shelter or who have “graduated” with their parent(s) to transitional housing.

God bless you for all you do.

Sister Virginia Farrell, M.M.

Busy, KY

Organ Donation-Advance Directives for Health Care:

Did you know that there are nearly 2,000 men, women and children in New Jersey awaiting life-saving transplant operations?  The Catholic Church views organ donation as an act of charity and love, as long as ethical principals are followed.  One way of becoming an organ donor is to complete an Advance Directive for Health Care form.  The NJ Catholic Conference has prepared a “Catholic” Advance directive for Health Care form.  To obtain a copy, please call the Pro-Life Office at 732-651-8084.

STILL more to be thankful you don’t live in the 1500’s

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people.  So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a “bone-house” and reuse the grave.  When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive.  So they thought they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin, up through the ground, and tie it to a bell.  Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the “graveyard shift”) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be “saved by the bell” or was considered a “dead ringer.”

Did you know-

A Boeing 747’s wingspan is longer than the Wright brothers’ first flight.

American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one olive from each salad served in first class.

Apples are more efficient than caffeine at waking you up in the morning.

Most dust particles in your house are dead skin.
