Abraham, the just and upright man, graciously hosts three visitors.   As Mary and Martha host Jesus, he speaks of only one thing as necessary for us who follow him: being open to receive the message and person of Jesus, and being receptive to “the mystery of Christ” as he comes to us through one another.

COULD YOU NOT WATCH ONE HOUR WITH ME?” You are invited to come to spend time with Jesus.  Every Thursday from 8:30 AM to 12 Noon there is Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in our Church. Stop in for just a minute or two. You will find it is time well spent.

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS who are sick at home, in the hospital or in nursing homes and especially for Nancy Venturo, Edith Fabian, Kenneth Voorhees, Ken Hicks, James Cruise, Florence Altiere, Sister Rose Marita Lake, Anna Zeth, Raffaella Shapiro, Doris Murmello, Mary Garretson, Theresa Jasinski, Sr. Mary Theresa Leddy, Haley Weber, Bev Torak, Yoshiaki Nakata, Adeline Imbriani, Theresa Buckley, Rose Stevenson, and Christian Sumner.

Let us pray That each pregnant woman may choose the better part, which is life for her unborn child.

The Lord in reply said to her: "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and upset about many things; one thing only is required. Mary has chosen the better portion and she shall not be deprived of it."   Lk 10:41-42

Everyone is so busy!  Like Martha in today’s Gospel, we can get overwhelmed and not take the time to listen to the voice of the Lord.  Martha’s sister, Mary, teaches us just how important it is to “choose the better portion and listen to Jesus.”  Are you listening?  Is Jesus calling you to the diocesan priesthood or to be a deacon, religious brother or sister.  If so, contact the Vocations Office at 732-549-9770 or e-mail us at Neumannhse@aol.com. CONVENTIONAL AMERICAN WISDOM AS EXPRESSED BY SOME PROMINENT TWENTIETH CENTURY FIGURES

Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, the great American preacher told of an encounter with a prominent businessman, after he had preached on the seventh Commandment.  He had emphasized the requirement of honesty in the relations between labor and management.  “An honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work.”  The businessman expressed his position this way: “It’s dog-eat-dog out there, Reverend.  You gotta do it to them before they do it to you.

The following words were written by Andy Rooney, a man who has the gift of saying so much with so few words:

I’ve learned..

That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.

That we should be glad God doesn’t give us everything we ask for.
