Elisha is summoned to follow the prophet Elijah and to succeed him.  Jesus insists that those who follow him must abandon all material or psychological securities, walking ever forward without looking back.  It is the Lord alone who is to hold fast our lot.  Paul distinguishes between true freedom and license.

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS who are sick at home, in the hospital or in nursing homes, especially for Bill Fioravant, John Pongratz, Joseph Ballotta, Mary Ann Manley, Mary Pokotello, Hudson Savarin, Albert Schraeder, Rose Campanero, Patrick Puppo, John & Eileen Foxwell, Sr. Elinor Foxwell, F.M.M., Haley Weber, Cole Nesmith, James Murray (uncle of Karen Mathews), Vincent Anatele, Rose Stevenson, Blanche Ferarro, David Alliprandine, Ralph Ley, Teresa Kunz, Josephine Sarnoski, and Joseph Morando.  Please also pray for the soul of Deacon John H. Purdy II from St. Magdalen de Pazzi Church in Flemington, who passed away last week.

PRE-BAPTISMAL CLASS- The next Baptism Class will be on Monday, September 13, 2004.

Let Us Pray…For all men whose children have been aborted that they may find healing for their pain.

“The harvest is rich,” Jesus tells the seventy-two in today’s Gospel, “but the workers are few.”  The situation is the same today.  How can I help with God’s harvest?  Am I called into the field?  Am I one who could provide food or shelter or wages to those who toil in the fields of the Lord?

Bishop Bootkoski has asked all parishes in the Diocese to take a collection to help the people of Haiti & The Dominican Republic who have been left homeless & destitute due to the recent floods.  Accordingly, we will take a “Free Will Offering” This weekend, June 26/27 at all the Masses.  Please be as generous as your means allow.

Today’s readings seem to contradict each other: “go home to say goodbye; don’t go home to say goodbye.”  As so often is the case in Scripture, we must read between the lines.  The real issue is, “Who has a steward’s heart?”  The Gospel indicates some half-heartedness where Jesus is looking for single-heartedness!  Elisha exhibits a true YES as he leaves everything behind with great love and generosity for God an also for his Family.

Someone is Waiting for You!

How very fortunate we are to have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday from 8:30 AM until 12 noon.  We are able to visit with Jesus, one on one, and to tell Him all of our troubles and worries and receive His Loving Peace and Comfort while in His Presence.

Won’t you come and visit Him?  It could be for 15 minutes, ½ hour or 1 hour.  His Blessings are there for you.  Let’s not miss this beautiful Spiritual Opportunity.

Part Time Job opportunities are available at The St. Jude Shop in Somerville.  Flexible Hours-Ideal for Students.  For more information, call 908-429-0808

Holy Name Society News

Congratulations to Keith Fasanella for a job well done. He did a great job on the Saturday Night at the Ballpark. Our Lady of Mercy Church was represented by over fifty persons. And the home team came away victorious in the double header. Thanks Keith for a job well done.  I would like to remind our members and ALL male parishioner's and ALL our friends that our retreat to the San Alfonso Retreat House in West Long Branch at the "Jersey" shore is not that far away. It starts Friday evening, August 13, 2004 and is over after Sunday dinner at about 1:00 o'clock, the 15th of August. The cost is $140.00 and it includes all meals (6) and an air-conditioned comfortable private room. Come and enjoy a great weekend. Meet some new people and come and get a little closer to our God.  Call Bob at 732 356 3975 for further details.

Blessed Be HIS Holy Name

THE SCULPTOR'S ATTITUDE

I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.  Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.  Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.  Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive.  Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.  Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.  Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.  Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do. Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.  Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul. Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.  What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have!  What will you choose to do with Today? Have a Great Day...unless you have other plans.
