Listen carefully to the voice of the Lord: set your heart on what will last forever.  We only fool ourselves if we believe that our possessions will bring us happiness and life.  Instead, “grow rich in the sight of the Lord”.

Let Us Pray…That we may use our time, talent, and treasure to protect and defend the right to life.

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered here at Our Lady of Mercy on Saturday, October 9th at the 5:30 PM Mass.  Abbot Gerard Lair, O.S. B. will preside at the celebration.

Fr. Alexis Fernando from the Diocese of Kandy, Sri-Lanka will preach at all Masses on August 14 & 15, 2004.

Sri Lanka: formerly called Ceylon: an island off the southern coast of India.  Population:18.8 Million, Religions: Buddhists 65%, Hindus 18%, Catholics 7%.

The diocese of Kandy is located in the central hill country of Sri Lanka, an island nation known for its tea.  The diocese has a population of 2 million where only 3-˝ % are Catholics who are spread over a wide area.  The terrain being mountainous traveling presents a problem as vehicles take a heavy toll on rough roads.

The majority of the Catholics belong to the ethnic group called the Tamil Tea Plantation workers.  This socio-economic community is of Indian origin and are politically & economically a marginalized sector of the population. They live in “line rooms” which is a row of rooms in one long building.  In a room of 10x20’ a family would live, cook, sleep, convalesce, stack firewood and keep domestic animals such as chickens.  Their access to health care & education is limited.  Malnourishment is prevalent especially in the children.

While ministering to their spiritual needs, the diocese has also initiated many self-help projects to improve the quality of life of the people.  Various programs for village development, youth, women, elderly dying destitutes, human rights and for communications, help keep the commitment of the diocese in their social and economic upliftment.  The Bishop, 45 priests, 225 religious and about 100 full time lay catechists invites you to join hands with them in their service to this little community in Sri Lanka.  Your prayers and your generous financial assistance will help them in their missionary effort and supplement their meager and limited resources for which they will be very grateful.  God will certainly bless your generosity.

A native priest from Sri Lanka will help you feel a part of this mission Church out-post and ask for your assistance when he speaks at all the masses on the weekend of the mission appeal.

Prayer for Healing

Dear God, illness is not a thing, but a place.  A place that is often full of pain, along with fear, uncertainty, and anger.  A place where I must be alone, except for You.  Be with me, Lord, in this way I must go.  Let me pray in confidence with Job “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be hindered.”  Give me a healthy body that I may use it in service of You.  Give me a healthy mind and spirit that I may employ them in the work of Your Kingdom.  Until my healing comes, Lord, let me join my suffering to that of Your Son, Jesus, who willingly suffered for our sake.  Let Your grace be sufficient for my need.  Give me, and all who suffer, strength that we may be filled with hope.  Give us Your love so that our suffering may bring us closer to You, the origin and source of all love.  In Christ’s name I pray, Amen

Someone is Waiting for You!

How very fortunate we are to have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday from 8:30 AM until 12 noon.  We are able to visit with Jesus, one on one, and to tell Him all of our troubles and worries and receive His Loving Peace and Comfort while in His Presence.

Won’t you come and visit Him?  It could be for 15 minutes, ˝ hour or 1 hour.  His Blessings are there for you.  Let’s not miss this beautiful Spiritual Opportunity.
