Someone is Waiting for You!

How very fortunate we are to have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday from 8:30 AM until 12 noon.  We are able to visit with Jesus, one on one, and to tell Him all of our troubles and worries and receive His Loving Peace and Comfort while in His Presence.  Won’t you come and visit Him?  It could be for 15 minutes, ½ hour or 1 hour.  His Blessings are there for you.  Let’s not miss this beautiful Spiritual Opportunity.

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS who are sick at home, in the hospital or in nursing homes, especially for Consuelo Healy, Bill Fioravant, John Pongratz, Joseph Ballotta, Mary Pokotello, Hudson Savarin, Albert Schraeder, Rose Campanero, Patrick Puppo, John & Eileen Foxwell, Sr. Elinor Foxwell, F.M.M., Haley Weber, Cole Nesmith, James Murray (uncle of Karen Mathews), Warren King (father of Karen Mathews), Vincent Anatele, Rose Stevenson, Blanche Ferarro, David Alliprandine, Ralph Ley, Teresa Kunz, Betty Connelly, Josephine Sarnoski, and Joseph Morando.

All summer we have been following the ‘order’ of Luke’s Gospel with Jesus’ journey to Jerusalem.  Like the plot of a good mystery, we sense a growing crisis and urgency on Jesus’ part to offer God’s hospitality and to have it accepted.  The choice is always ours.

The images of ‘gate’ and ‘door’ are often used in Scripture to show the boundaries we must cross-or not-on life’s journey.  They can be passageways or obstacles, depending on the choices we make and our attitude of ‘yes’ to all that our discipleship calls us.  Hebrews remind us that what we need most is discipline.  We are not always comfortable with the word or the mental pictures it provokes, but this reading gives a clear and positive picture.  These two words come from the same root and tell us that we cannot be worthy disciples without self-discipline.

Spend time praying and thinking about your spiritual disciplines.  Eliminate what takes you away from God and spend more energy on what is ‘life-giving,’ even if it seems hard or inconvenient

(Non)sense And Sensibility

I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Just because you're smart does not mean that the other guy is stupid.

Indecision is the key to flexibility.

Inflexibility is the hallmark of the Tiny Mind.

Time is Nature's way of making sure that everything doesn't happen at once.

If swimming is so good for your figure, how do you explain whales?

The trouble with being in the rat race is that even if you win, you're still a rat.

I get plenty of exercise -- jumping to conclusions, pushing my luck, and dodging deadlines.

On the keyboard of life, always keep one finger on the escape key.

The Truth is Out There. So what are you doing here?!

I have not yet begun to procrastinate.

I don't suffer from stress. I'm a carrier.

Holy Name Society News

We are pleased to report that the Holy Name Society sponsored weekend retreat to San Alfonso located in West Long Branch at the "Jersey" shore was a great success. We had 15 men, most of them Holy Name members and fellow parishioners that attended. The theme of this year’s retreat was "The Mysteries Of Light". We meditated and walked with Jesus as HE journeys from his baptism in Jordan, to the wedding at Cana, to the proclamation of the Kingdom of God, and also His Transfiguration on Mount Tabor. We concluded with the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper. It was an outstanding weekend made possible by the talented speakers that spoke to us. This retreat shed light on the faith-fact that Jesus is walking with us in our faith, our service, and our lives.  Our thanks to our retreat captain, Bob Gaudio, for a job well done.  We ask all our friends in Christ to consider joining us next year at San Alfonso's where God and the sea come together.

Blessed Be HIS Holy Name
