27th Sunday in Ordinary Time – October 2, 2005

In the Gospel today, the owner of the vineyard sent messengers to collect his share of the harvest from the tenant farmers, but there was not a single good steward on the property! God is the owner, we are the tenants. What sort of stewards are we?

Let Us Pray….

That on this Respect Life Sunday we re-commit ourselves to seek an end to the bloodshed of abortion and restoration of justice for all citizens, born and unborn.

Stewardship is a one-sword summary of the Christian way of life.  It recognizes that, as the psalmist says, “the earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it.”

Our model for this way of life is Jesus.  He was put here on earth for a purpose – to move creation towards its destiny, which is ultimately God.  We are called to continue this work in the particular circumstances of our time and place.

Jesus led the way by giving himself completely to the Father.  He expressed this especially on the cross when he said, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.”

On the night before he died, Jesus gave us the Eucharist so that we could join with him in giving ourselves and all creation to God.  At Mass, Jesus’ act of self-giving is made present to us so that we can become part of it.

This giving of ourselves is expressed over and over in the prayers of the Mass, For example, the Opening Prayer for today’s Mass:

Lord God, our help and guide, make your love the foundation of our lives.  May our love for you express itself in our eagerness to do good for others.

Try saying that prayer 3 or 4 times right now- changing the work “our” to “my”.

Listen to Catholic Radio! Tune in to 89.3 FM & listen to our area’s ONLY full-time Catholic radio station.

☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺

If you can't get your work done in the first 24 hours, work nights.

If it weren't for the last minute, nothing would get done.

Following the rules will not get the job done.

Getting the job done is no excuse for not following the rules.

No matter how much you do, you never do enough.

A pat on the back is only a few centimeters from a kick in the butt.

Don't be irreplaceable, if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

It doesn't matter what you do, it only matters what you say you've done, and what you're going to do. After any salary raise, you will have less money at the end of the month than you did before.

If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then quit. No use being a fool about it.
