First Synod of the Diocese of Metuchen
What Makes a Synod Special?
Contemporary diocesan synods are similar to strategic
planning efforts at companies and non-profit organizations. Those efforts
involve assessing the past, understanding current reality, and planning for the
future.
As Roman Catholics, we rely on Gospel values as well
as our Church’s teachings to guide planning endeavors. Reverence for the
presence of Jesus, our willingness to be guided by the Holy Spirit, and a rich
tradition of serving all in need makes the diocesan synod a special kind of
venture.
Consider
also Mary, our Queen and Mother, whose fiat, “Thy will be done,” exemplifies
faith and trust in the abiding wisdom of God. For more information about this

Tax Refunds
& Tithing
Are you receiving a tax refund this year? Have you considered giving a percentage of it back to your parish? Even if you are not able to give a full 5% or 10% tithe to your parish on a regular basis many Catholics find that tithing on unexpected income – a tax refund, winnings at the Casino, or an inheritance – is a great first step to experiencing the joy and contentment that come when we really do give as God has asked us to give. Try it yourself and feel the joy.
