STATIONS OF THE CROSS WILL BE ON FRIDAY EVENINGS BEFORE THE MASS.

The days of fast & abstinence are Ash Wednesday & Good Friday.  All other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.  From the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday until the Easter Vigil of Holy Saturday, the Easter Fast should be observed so that with uplifted & welcoming hearts, we may be ready to celebrate the joys of the Resurrection.

The obligation to FAST applies only to Catholics between the ages of 18 & 59.  To fast means to limit oneself to one full meal during the day so as to experience hunger.  Abstinence affects all Catholics who have reached the age of 14 and means to abstain from meat and all meat products.  Those unable to abstain for a valid reason on any given Friday of Lent are asked to perform some other penitential act, or to abstain on another day.

Let Us Pray…For all women tempted by the appealing promises of abortion that they may have the strength to say no to its destruction.

At Disneyland they have hundreds of wild domesticated cats running around the park. They never come out during the day because there's too many people, but the reason they're there is to catch the mice.

February 13th First Sunday of Lent

Pss I Seasonal prop

Cr Pf for First Sun of Lent

22: Gn 2:7-9;3:1-7 Ps 51:3-6, 12-13,17

Rom 5:12-19 or 5:12,17-19 Mt 4:1-11

Like Adam and Eve, Jesus was tempted, but did not sin.  Our sinfulness is acquitted through one man, Jesus Christ, in whom we are justified.

No one can tell the truth about abortion like a woman who has had one.  Martha Wenger, the mother of an aborted child, describes the aftermath of abortion for her. “The whole procedure toughened me.  I became hateful. I had no compassion… A lot of women think they’re getting rid of a problem.  But they don’t have any idea of the problems they’ll face afterwards.”

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS who are sick at home, in the hospital or in nursing homes, especially for Teresa Salas, Bill Fioravant, John Pongratz, Mary Pokotello, Jeanette Felix, Roberta (Bobbi) Zabita, Rose Campanero, John Foxwell, Sr. Elinor Foxwell, F.M.M., Haley Weber, Cole Nesmith, James Murray (uncle of Karen Mathews), Warren King (father of Karen Mathews), Vincent Anatele, Rose Stevenson, Blanche Ferarro, Teresa Kunz, Carol Talnagi, Gladys Quinlin, Adam Platukis, Elizabeth Connelly, Vi Konz, Jill Miner and Josephine Sarnoski.

This weekend, in addition to the celebration of World Marriage Day, the Office of Children’s Services under the auspices of the NJ Department of Human Services is sponsoring a faith-based community weekend to recruit foster parents.  Every house of worship and every denomination have been invited to participate.  The recruitment event called, “Sharing the Love with Our Children,” is a plea to encourage people of all faiths to open their homes and hearts to children who need the warmth and guidance of a family.  Please consider helping one of these children by becoming a foster or adoptive parent by sharing your love.  Training and all resources you need to become a loving foster parent will be provided.  Call 1-877-NJ-FOSTER or visit the web site at www.njfostercare.org.

You cannot tell which way the train

went by looking at the track.

At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank from pint and quart-sized containers. A bar maid's job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in "pints" and who was drinking in "quarts," hence the term "minding your 'P's and Q's."

The reason one wears a wedding ring on the third finger is that (tradition says) there is supposed to be a vein which goes directly from that finger to the heart—i.e., the seat of love. Also, not everyone wears that wedding ring on the third finger of the LEFT hand. In some traditions, such as the Jewish one, it is worn on the right hand. Also, I'm given to understand that nuns ("brides of Christ") wear a wedding ring, again on the right hand.
