“Advocates of abortion on demand claimed that abortion would decrease child abuse because all children would be “wanted” children.  Research indicates that since abortion was legalized, child abuse has increased in part because allowing the abuse of unborn children through abortion quietly creates an atmosphere that enables the abuse of born children.”  Father Frank Pavone, “Abortion and Child Abuse-Part One,” Priests for Life newsletter.

“On the weekend of April 16-17, John Conner, the founder of Grassroots Coalition for Environmental and Economic Justice, will come to Our Lady of Mercy to invite us to join in the Coalition’s effort to bring justice to the clothing industry.  He will bring clothes for sale, which are made in the US by workers who earn a living wage and use only organic cotton.  Currently, about two-thirds of the clothing sold in this country is made in sweatshops.  The Coalition is initiating this effort in many churches in the Metuchen Diocese.

April 17, 2005 has been designated as World Day of Prayer for Vocations.  This is a day for all of us to pray that men and women will hear and respond to God’s Call in their lives.  The hope is that this will include the call to follow Jesus as priests, deacons, sisters and brothers.  Bishop Bootkoski will preside at a Eucharistic Holy Hour for Vocations at St Bernard Church in Bridgewater at 4:00 PM.

The psychology instructor had just finished a lecture on mental health and was giving an oral test.  Speaking specifically about manic depression, she asked, "How would you diagnose a patient who walks back and forth screaming at the top of his lungs one minute, then sits in a chair weeping uncontrollably the next?"  A young man in the rear raised his hand and answered, "A basketball coach?"
