Your gift to the 2006
Bishop’s Annual Appeal can make a difference!
As an example, Catholic Charities operates in every county of the
Diocese, providing social services to thousand of people in need each
year. Your gift helps provide countless
services that so many depend on.
Our goal is to have every
household of our parish participate in the Appeal. Please pray for the success
of the Appeal, and let us remember Good’s love for us and the grace and
blessings of sharing what we have with others.

rich in good works, to be generous, ready to share.” 1 Timothy 6: 17-19

Bishops’
Teachings for Election Day
As Election Day approaches the
"Some Catholic elected officials have adopted
the argument that, while they personally oppose evils like abortion, they
cannot force their religious views onto the wider society. This is seriously
mistaken on several key counts. First, regarding abortion, the point when human
life begins is not a religious belief but a scientific fact -- a fact on which
there is clear agreement even among leading abortion advocates. Second, the
sanctity of human life is not merely Catholic doctrine but part of humanity's
global ethical heritage and our nation's founding principle. Finally, democracy
is not served by silence. Most Americans would recognize the contradiction in
the statement, "While I am personally opposed to slavery or racism or
sexism I cannot force my personal view on the rest of society." Real
pluralism depends on people of conviction struggling vigorously to advance
their beliefs by every ethical and legal means at their disposal" (US Bishops,
Living the Gospel of Life, 1998, n. 24).

George W. Bush, in an airport
lobby, noticed a man in a long flowing white robe with a long flowing white
beard and flowing white hair. The man had a staff in one hand and some stone
tablets under the other arm. George W. approached the man and inquired,
"Aren't you Moses?" The man ignored George W. and stared at the
ceiling. George W. positioned himself more directly in the man's view and asked
again, "Aren't you Moses?". The man continued to peruse the ceiling.
George W. tugged at the man's sleeve and asked once again, "Aren’t you
Moses?" The man finally responded in an irritated voice, "Yes I
am"George W. asked him why he was so unfriendly and Moses replied,
"The last time I spoke to a Bush I had to spend forty years in the desert.
