155: 1 Kgs 17:10-16 Ps 146:7-10
Heb 9:24-28 Mk 12:38-44 or 12:41-44
The
Lord provides (Ps) for Elijah’s need as the widow of Zarephath shares with him
from her want (1). Her generosity is mirrored in the widow in the temple who
gives from her poverty and not from power, privilege or excess (3). In Jesus,
God became poor for us, offering himself to take away our sins (2).
Stewardship
Both
widows in today’s readings gave all they had to the work of the Lord, one using
all her remaining food to feed Elijah and the other offering her two copper
coins to the temple treasury. Faithful stewards give all that is asked and
trust the Lord to faithful to His promises.

Annual Appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious
Dec. 9 & 10 The
national Annual Appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious will be conducted
on the second weekend of December.
This appeal asks us to recall those
women & men religious whose ministry has nourished our own faith, served
our church and strengthened our nation. Today, more than 37,000 women & men
religious are past age 70. Their institutes face critical economic challenges
as the costs of health care escalate and as the need for handicapped-accessible
housing increases. Please be generous
when we collect for the Retirement Fund for the Religious.
OUR LADY OF MERCY NEWS
Update-- Bishop’s Annual Appeal
Our Lady of Mercy
Our Lady of Mercy’s goal is $27,800.00. The number of families
participating so far is 129 or 23.33% of our parishioners. They have pledged a
total of $20, 820.00. To look at it in another way…23.33% of our parish has
pledged 74.89% or our goal. To reach our goal, we need another $6,980.00. We
have 76.67% of our parish who have not participated. If every parishioner who
had not yet participated would give $25.00, we would surpass our goal for this
year.
