Pss I Seasonal prop

23: Gn 9:8-15 Ps 25:4-9 1 Pt 3:18-22 Mk 1:12-15

Mindful of his covenant, the Lord promises never to destroy creation again by floodwaters.  The waters of baptism bring salvation and forgiveness through the death of Christ.  After fasting forty days and being put to the test, Jesus begins his public ministry.

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS who are sick at home, in the hospital or in nursing homes, especially for John Vanderhoff, Gail Rotondo, Tony Gangitano, Frank Kozden, Christine Dyke, Gilda Rizzon, David King, Mary Pokotello, John Foxwell, Haley Weber, Blanche Ferarro, Adam Platukis, Kalman Sipos, Josephine Sarnoski, Roseanne Scaletti, Chris Perciante, and Diane Manley.

Please also pray for the soul of Doloris Tymecki, sister-in-law of Frank Tymecki, who passed away recently.  Let us ask God through our prayers to reward her as only he can with a place of light, happiness & peace forever.

Stewardship

What can you do in your personal stewardship journey?

1 Set aside additional time for prayer & reflection

2 Attend Mass regularly

3 Set aside time to read & study scripture

4 Share your time, talent & resources with those in need.

Our Stewardship Renewal is now underway.  Please respond by suing the response envelope enclosed with the letter you received from Fr. Herlihy.  The participation of ALL parishioners is essential for the success of this effort.  If you increased your weekly offering but did not use the special envelope, please do so next weekend so we can properly acknowledge your response.  If you did not receive a letter from Father, please pick up a copy from the rear of the church as you leave.

First Sunday of Lent – March 5, 2006

The waters of Baptism make us part of the new covenant in Christ. But the bishops’ pastoral letter on stewardship reminds us that “there is a fundamental obligation arising from the Sacrament of Baptism . . . that people place their gifts, their resources — their selves —at God’s service in and through the Church.”

Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2.

A mother and her 3-year-old daughter were watching Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs for the fist time together.  The wicked queen appeared disguised as an old lady selling apples, and the daughter was spellbound.  Then Snow White took a bite out of the poisoned apple and collapsed to the ground. As the apple rolled away, the daughter whispered, “See, Mommy, she doesn’t like the skin either.”

Maybe you have an aversion to Lent. You just don’t like it.  Perhaps Lent is too much of an intrusion into your daily routine & you prefer to ignore it.  That would be a mistake.  We need Lent, but we should understand why.

Lent is a special time, an “acceptable time” to grow, to change, to seek more earnestly the face of the Lord.  And it is not just “my” private time, but rather is “our” time, the Church’s time, the time in which as sisters & brothers throughout the world, we repent & believe the good news.

Father, help me to appreciate the need for Lenten Prayer, meditation & discipline.  Show me how I need to grow and give me the grace to do so.  May this Lent be for me and for all Christians a special time of salvation.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Protons have mass? I didn't even know they were Catholic

All I ask is a chance to prove that money can't make ME happy

A beggar asked me for 50 cents for a sandwich. I said, "First let me see the sandwich."

What is a "free gift?" Aren't all gifts free?

Teach a child to be polite and courteous in the home and, when he grows up, he'll never be able to merge his car onto a freeway.

One nice thing about egotists: They don't talk about other people.

How can there be self-help "groups"?

What's another word for thesaurus?

I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.

If you want to make a woman nervous, just put her in a room with a hundred hats and no mirror.
