DIOCESAN NEWS

First Synod of the Diocese of Metuchen

Our Hopes: Education

In Jesus, our divine teacher, we find a reverence for learning and commitment to education that the Church has sustained throughout the ages. We are called to pass on through education what we have received in faith and through careful study.

Responses about Catholic schools in the Diocese of Metuchen; religious formation for youth; sacramental preparation; our campus ministry; adult faith formation (e.g., RCIA); and continuing faith formation for Catholic adults will be sorted into this category: Education. These are only a sampling of issues for further discussion. Much will be said, of course, about each issue.

As faithful and dedicated Catholic Christians, we seek the Holy Spirit to guide human intelligence as we sort through responses from our Speak Up Sessions.

The Metuchen Diocese Council of Catholic Women will hold their Ninth Biennial Assembly on Saturday, April 29,2006, at St. John Vianney Parish, Colonia.  Registration is at 8:30 a.m. The day concludes with lunch.  Cost is $20.00. For further information and registration call Betty at (732) 463-1270.

From the Pastor’s Desk

All Christians the world over look forward to Easter Day.  For us who live in the Northern Hemisphere, spring is upon as well where life is about to begin a new start after a cold and dreary winter.

Life too in the church is about to take on a new vigor with the Resurrection of Christ after a terrible Good Friday.

To all of you, a very blessed, hold and life awakening Easter Day.

May God Bless you, Father Dan

First Synod of the Diocese of Metuchen

Our Hopes: Education

Phase II Speak UpWe’re Listening Sessions will be held in Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, and Warren counties from May 3 through June 17, 2006.  Based on responses received from Phase I sessions, our Bishop will review topics proposed  for more in-depth discussion. Phase II sessions will be topic specific and use a process designed to reach consensus among those speaking up. Please visit the synod website during April for information about the dates, times, and locations of Phase II sessions — and to pre-register for the sessions     and locations of your choice.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Every Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon there is adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in our church.  The Blessed Sacrament cannot be left alone and we are in need of someone to stay between 11:30 and 12:00.

Would someone find it in their hearts to make a commitment to be in church every Thursday morning for a short half hour and be with the Blessed Sacrament?  Being in the presence of Jesus, in a very peaceful place, will be one of the happiest experiences of your life.  We also are in need of individuals to stay at other times.

Please contact Rita Stryshak at 732-469-2874.  This is a project of the Rosary Altar Society.

Bounce This Along

My mail  carrier told me that the US Postal service sent out a message

To all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets To keep yellow-jackets away.

Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. I use it when I am working outside. It really works. The yellow jackets just veer around you.

1. All this time you've just been putting Bounce in the dryer It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice.

2. Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

3. It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.

4. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

5. Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer)screen.

6. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate  static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling.

7. Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

8. To freshen the air in your home - Place an individual sheet of

Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.

9. Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner

10. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

11. Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing
