Second Sunday of Easter – April 23, 2006

The Christian community described in Acts understood and practiced total stewardship. St. Paul reports that the believers did not claim anything as their own, but held everything in common, and distributed to each whatever was needed.

DIOCESAN NEWS

First Synod of the Diocese of Metuchen

Our Hopes: Education

In Jesus, our divine teacher, we find a reverence for learning and commitment to education that the Church has sustained throughout the ages. We are called to pass on through education what we have received in faith and through careful study.

Responses about Catholic schools in the Diocese of Metuchen; religious formation for youth; sacramental preparation; our campus ministry; adult faith formation (e.g., RCIA); and continuing faith formation for Catholic adults will be sorted into this category: Education. These are only a sampling of issues for further discussion. Much will be said, of course, about each issue.

As faithful and dedicated Catholic Christians, we seek the Holy Spirit to guide human intelligence as we sort through responses from our Speak Up Sessions.

The Metuchen Diocese Council of Catholic Women will hold their Ninth Biennial Assembly on Saturday, April 29,2006, at St. John Vianney Parish, Colonia.  Registration is at 8:30 a.m. The day concludes with lunch.  Cost is $20.00. For further information and registration call Betty at (732) 463-1270.

The Synod Process Continues

Phase II: Generating Ideas

Phase II is different and distinct from Phase I. During Phase II, you will choose the topic(s) that are most important to you and then generate ideas that address specific questions chosen by Bishop Bootkoski based on input from Phase I. Your ideas will help shape what delegates discuss during synod sessions this autumn.

Check the synod website for the dates, times, and locations of Phase II sessions about Education; Parish Life; Personnel in Ministry; Social Justice; Unity; and Worship & Spirituality. Questions and background information about each topical area are available in advance at www.diometuchen.org/synod OR in The Catholic Spirit OR by calling the Synod Secretariat at 732-562-2454.

Phase II sessions are being held throughout the Diocese between May 3 and June 17.

Your pre-registration will help us plan!

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

We are most fortunate to have Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament every Thursday morning. We have the great opportunity to visit with Jesus in a most personal way.

"I paid a visit to Jesus today,

where I could kneel, adore and pray.

There I found such joy and great peace,

wanting these feelings never to cease.

God's loving invitation is extended today,

to come visit, kneel, adore and pray.”

Every Thursday, from 8:30 till Noon.

Please come and visit Jesus very soon.”

Don't miss the opportunity of visiting with Jesus, for 15 minutes, a half hour or an hour.  You will find many blessings coming your way.

We are in need of more people to sign up and commit to an hour or half hour each week.  If you are able to do so, please contact Rita at 732-469-2874.

Hurricane Katrina Relief

You've given to at least one of the major relief efforts to ease the suffering ofthose whose lives were turned upside down by Hurricane Katrina, but you'd like to do something more personal. Here is your chance.

The city of Pass Christian on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi was 85% destroyed. 80% of the school students in the district lost their homes. Most are living in tiny FEMA trailers. Others are still living in tents and a few are still living in cars. The middle and high school students go to classes in trailers and change classes each hour. When it rains, their feet often get wet. A teacher in the high school passes out fresh socks to the children to keep their feet warm. They need more socks. Could you please contribute some tube socks for these teens, boys and girls, (adult size) and drop them off in the boxes that will be in the vestibule and stairwells? It's a small gesture of help and hope that will be appreciated far more than you can ever imagine.
