SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT

Pss II  Seasonal prop

Prop  Cr   Pf of Second Sunday of Lent  Sol Bl

27: Gn 15:5-12,17-18  Ps 27:1,7-9,13-14

Phil 3:17-4:1 or 3:20-4:1  Lk 9:28b-36

Abram’s faith is sealed with a covenant initiated by God (1), our light and our salvation (Ps). The transfiguration of Jesus (3) prefigures the transformation in glory to which we are called by our sharing in the paschal mystery – the dying and rising of Jesus (2).

Stewardship

Peter, James, and John wanted to build a “booth” for Jesus and just stay on the mountain where His transfiguration took place. But the Son of God, the Chosen One, knew that He must instead keep moving toward His crucifixion. We, too, must rise from worship and do what we can to hasten the coming of the kingdom.

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS including: Tony Gangitano, David King, John & Peter Foxwell, Haley Weber, Frank Stashak, Josephine Sarnoski, Elizabeth Connelly, Kippy Hale, Loretta Girard & Mary Kelly.

Q: Why do ships and aircraft in trouble use "mayday" as their call for help?
A: This comes from the French word m'aidez -meaning "help me" -- and is pronounced "mayday."

Q: Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left?
A: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. And that's where women's buttons have remained since.

Pro-life News and Action Alert

Sign the Petition

Governor Corzine refuses to apply for New Jersey’s Title V Funding to support abstinence education for 10-14 year olds. The State of New Jersey has accepted these funds for the past nine years for the express purpose of teaching the principles and tools of delaying sexual activity to 10 - 14 year old children. The Governor is rejecting over $900,000 that currently fund programs that are taught in public schools and are offered by other organizations such as St. Peters University Hospital. The NJ Catholic Conference has asked us to support a petition drive sponsored by the NJ Physicians’ Advisory Group, a group dedicated to promoting abstinence education.

Mike Albert will be at the entrance to the church this weekend asking parishioners to sign a petition to be presented to Governor Corzine to reverse his decision in this matter.

From the Mouth of Babes

Q. How do you decide who to marry?

A. No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with. -Kristen, age 10

Q. What is the right age to get married?
A.
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then. - Camille, age 10

Q. How can a stranger tell if two people are married?
A.
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids. - Derrick, age 8
