Amos condemns the complacency of the rich who seek
only their own comfort (1). In his parable about the rich man and Lazarus,
Jesus echoes Amos, exhorting those who have to share with those who have not.
Self-sufficiency must never blind us to the needs of others. 3,Ps). Only in
this way do we keep God’s commandments in integrity and in truth (2),
Stewardship
The sin of the rich man in today’s parable was not that he was rich,
but that he failed to share his wealth with the beggar at his gate. He knew Lazarus, perhaps walked by him every
time he came in or out, but did nothing to relieve his suffering. Is there a
Lazarus in my life? What am I doing to help?

The Science of Stem Cells:
Finding Cures and
Protecting Life
The Catholic Bishops are NOT opposed to stem cell
research when cord or placenta or adult stem cells are used. The ARE
opposed to “The New Jersey Stem Cell Research Bond Act” because this Bond Act
will include embryonic stem cells. The Bishops do not believe that government
should subsidize and then force morally opposed taxpayers to subsidize research
that requires the destruction of human life. Please visit www.respectlifetoday.org to watch a
short documentary titled “The Science of
Stems Cells: Finding Cures and Protecting Life”.
