Stewardship

The watchword today is “immediately.” Peter and Andrew, James and John all respond immediately to the call of Christ.  May I be as open to God’s call and as ready to use my talents in His service as those first disciples were!

A Thank You From Kentucky

Dear Friends at Our Lady of Mercy Church,

Thank you for your generous out pouring of love and gifts for our children in eastern Kentucky. Thank you also for acting promptly so we could get the gifts to the parents in time for Christmas.

The parents were all so appreciative. Sometimes they seem as excited as kids just to have some nice, new presents to put under the tree for their children. One woman was so grateful she started to cry.

As for the children, we will just have to imagine their wide eyes and big grins on Christmas morning. Christmas is all about love. Thank you for sharing that love with our families in need. May God bless you richly throughout the new year.

Sincerely,

Pat & Brother Mike

Foundation for Catholic Education Collection

January 26 & 27, 2008

Next weekend the Diocesan “Foundation for Catholic Education” collection will be taken up at all Masses. The Foundation for Catholic Education is an endowment fund which provides tuition assistance grants to families. Through the generous support of parishioners, the Diocese was able to increase the funding provided for tuition assistance for the 2007-2008 school year with $734,000 in grants awarded to 671 recipients. Although this amount represents a substantial amount of money, it covers less that 29% of the $2.5 million of financial need of the more than 900 students that applied. We need your support and the support of all parishes to keep Catholic education within reach for many of our school families.
