Stewardship

What temptations lure us from the path of discipleship?  Possessions?  Pride?  Power?  Oh Lord, create for us a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within us.  (See Psalm 51)

Radio Retreat – Online!

Franciscan Radio and the U.S. Catholic bishops encourage you to put aside today’s cares and worries, and take a “Radio Retreat”—online.

Using either the Windows Media Player, Real Player or any MP3 player, including Apple’s iPod, take this opportunity to focus clearly on what God is saying to you this Lent. Each week a different bishop leads you, through the Lenten Gospels. Each program is 30 minutes long.

Diocesan Collection February 9th & 10th

All parishes of the Diocese of Metuchen are asked to contribute to the annual “Winter Collection” to benefit two important causes sponsored by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops: The Campaign for Human Development and the Church in Latin America.

Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) – We can reverse the trend where 37 million Americans live in poverty. CCHD helps people break the cycle of poverty, not for just a day, but for a lifetime. We send 75% of the donations to the CCHD national office. We keep 25% here in our Diocese to fund local self-help initiatives to benefit our local communities.

Church in Latin America (CLA) – CLA helps fellow Catholics in Latin America and the Caribbean who are rich in faith but lacking in material resources - to participate more fully in the life of the Church and to share their faith with others. The collection also help respond to emergency pastoral needs resulting from natural disasters.

Catholic Charities Volunteers Needed

Please consider offering some time as a volunteer.  Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen is committed to provide quality care to those who come to us in need of assistance.  It is through your kind consideration of this request and generous contribution of time that can enable us to increase our ability to help.  Diana M. Schultz may be reached in our Bridgewater Office 908-722-1881.

World Marriage Day - February 17th

World Marriage Day honors husband and wife as the head of the family and the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life. Please visit wmd.wwme.org to find out how you and your spouse can celebrate World Marriage Day.

You can also visit www.foryourmarriage.org developed through the USCCB Bishops’ Pastoral on Marriage.  The website includes helpful and inspiring information for all married and engaged couples.

The Catholic Spirit

“Where can Catholics go for guidance, to learn the Church’s perspective on issues, to realize that we are all part of the Body of God? Here in the Diocese of Metuchen, that place is our diocesan newspaper, The Catholic Spirit.”

-Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski
