We must be on guard for the Day which is to come when all will be fulfilled. As we await the coming of Christ, let us love one another, observing his covenant and decrees.

Stewardship

“Be on guard,” Jesus warns in today’s Gospel, “lest your spirits become bloated with indulgence.” Let us heed His warning and follow the advice of St. Paul, conducting ourselves in a way pleasing to God, overflowing with love for one another.  (See Luke 21:34)

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS

For those who are ill, especially: James Esposito, Beverly Turok and Josephine Sarnoski that their suffering and trials may become sources of grace for themselves and others.

I find that the more willing I am to be grateful for the small things in life, the bigger stuff just seems to show up … I am constantly looking forward to each day with all the surprises that keep coming my way!

Special Diocesan Collection

December 12th and 13th

Retirement Fund for Religious

The second collection on December 12th & 13th benefits elderly women and men religious. More than 19,000 religious have less than 20 percent of the amount needed for projected costs of living and healthcare.

The average Catholic sister, brother, or order priest remains in active ministry until age 74. Today, 37,870 women and men religious are past age 70 and need our help with the current high cost of living and health care.

Please be generous.

Defense of Marriage Petition

** Update **

We are nearing the final stages of our effort to maintain the definition of marriage in New Jersey as the union between one man and one woman. So far, our efforts have been successful, and a number of legislators have indicated they will not support a change in the definition.

However, with the Lame Duck session of the State Legislature coming up later this month, it is imperative that we continue our efforts to make our voices heard, and to solidify this success. Many legislators have told us that personal phone calls and letters from constituents carry the greatest weight when they are considering an issue. We know that supporters of same-sex marriage are writing and calling, so it is necessary for our Catholic people to do the same.

Below are the names/addresses and phone numbers of our local legislators. Please take the time to either call or write and let them know you are opposed to changing the definition of marriage. Thank you.

Christmas Flower Collection

December 6 & 7

The second collection next week is for Christmas flowers for our church. The parishioners do such a wonderful job setting up the church for Advent and the coming of Christmas. Let us be as generous as in years past so we can have the same beautiful Christmas church as we are used to seeing.

Christmas 2009 for Kentucky

The Kentucky Giving Tree will is up in the vestibule of the church. As you know, we provide gift cards and gifts to our less fortunate friends in Appalachia.

Please, all gifts for Appalachia need to be returned by Today, November 29th. Please do not wrap the gift and also please stick the giving tree tag on the gift you bring.

Food Collection Boxes

We want to thank the members of our parish for their generosity with the food collection that was started in May of this year. We have provided over 60 bags to the less fortunate. As we said when we began the collections, we should all understand our calling as Catholics to share our abundance with the truly needy, for someday we will meet the Lord and ask, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you?” He will reply, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Please look for the food collection boxes in the church vestibule and the two entrances by the altar. Regular donations of foods with a long shelf life will be appreciated. A list of suggested items is posted above the donation boxes for your reference.

Thank you very much for your continued donations as they will be appreciated by someone who might otherwise go hungry tonight.
