The law liberates and leads us to freedom. It is to be trusted for it is a source of wisdom. Jesus speaks of the ultimate freedom to be won for us by his being raised up. He is the sign of the power and wisdom of God.

“You shall not covet” is perhaps a difficult commandment to keep in our consumer-oriented society.  But as Christian stewards, we know that we are the recipients and caretakers of God’s many gifts.  May this understanding that all is gift help us be less resentful of the gifts of others.

2008 BREAD & ROSES BALL

The Bread & Roses Ball will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Bridgewater Marriott in Bridgewater, NJ.  The proceeds from this event help support the social service programs of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen in Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren Counties. 

 

This year, back by popular demand, is Monte Carlo style gaming. In conjunction with the Bread & Roses Ball, a 50/50 Raffle is being held.  Raffle tickets are $25 each.  Only 1,000 tickets will be sold with the prizes awarded as follows: 1st prize - 25%, 2nd prize - 15% and 3rd prize - 10% of the total. The winner need not be present to win.

Theology of the Body

This adult faith formation workshop is a basic introduction of Pope John Paul II’s teachings as they relate to marital love, sexual union and the human body, commonly referred to as the “the theology of the body.” The theology of the body teaching is the cornerstone for the new catechetical session for engaged couples, “God’s Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage.”

Infertility Support Group

Suffering Silently? Are you and your spouse currently experiencing the pain of infertility or the inability to maintain a pregnancy?  There is support available!  Come join us for a Catholic Infertility Support Group, now being offered through the Family Life Office/Diocese of Metuchen on the third Saturday of the month at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, Piscataway, NJ.

Parents’ Workshop - Preparing for High School

St. Joseph High School, Metuchen will host a workshop on March 18 at 7:00 PM.

The workshop will focus on helping parents prepare financially for their child’s Catholic/Private high school experience. The speaker will focus on parents with children in the 4th through 7th grades. To register, please go to www.stjoes.org

Catholic School Tuition Assistance Applications

Applications for financial aid through the Diocese of Metuchen Tuition Assistance Program for the 2009-2010 school year are now available at all diocesan elementary and secondary schools. Completed applications must be received by Private School Aid Service by no later than March 31, 2009.

To obtain an application form, please contact the Principal or main office of the school where the student is registering. A printable version of the form, both English & Spanish, is available on the diocesan website at www.diometuchen.org/schools/tuition-assistance.

SBB - Boy Scout Breakfast Buffet

Boy Scout Troop 42 will host a breakfast buffet on Sunday, March 29 at the Reformed Church, Fellowship Hall located on Clinton Street, So. Bound Brook. Breakfast will be available from 8 AM to 1 PM and will feature Pancakes, Waffles and Made to Order Omelets.

Adults $8/Children & Seniors $5/Free for children under 4.

Youth Group News

Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Our annual Easter Egg Hunt will be once again on Palm Sunday, April 5th immediately following the 12:00 mass.  Flyers will be distributed during the CCD classes on Sunday March 1st.  All interested parish children should have the form completed and returned to the church NO LATER THAN Sunday March 22nd.  Flyers can be returned to their CCD teacher or drop them in the box in the vestibule or in the offering basket.  Any questions, please contact Nora Lyons on 732-563-9459. 

Diocesan Youth Day

For All teens from 8th to 12th Grades:  Join hundreds of teens throughout the diocese and enjoy a day created just for you. It is the Diocesan Youth Day on March 21st 11 am until 9 pm at Cardinal McCarrick H.S. South Amboy, NJ.

Bravo Conformandi!

The Our Lady of Mercy 8th grade Confirmation Class collected and delivered 431 pounds of food to the Franklin Food Bank on February 22, 2009.

The class would like to recognize your generous contributions.

At five minutes and six seconds after 4 AM on the 8th of July this year, the time and date will be 04:05:06 07/08/09. This will never happen again.
