To strengthen him for the journey, God provides Elijah with cake and water, reminiscent of his ancestors’ Pasch (1), Thus he experiences the goodness of the Lord (Ps). Jesus, the bread of life (3), strengthens us for our journey, following his way of love (2).

STEWARDSHIP

The gifts of God that the angel brought to Elijah — food, water, rest, and encouragement

— were given, not for his own good alone, but to strengthen him for service. How am I using my gifts to serve others?

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS

For those who are ill, especially James Esposito,

Beverly Turok, Peter Yazgier, Josephine Sarnoski,

Keith Bloomer, Terri Mahoney, Irene Corrigan.

That their suffering and trials may become sources of grace for themselves and others.

THE GOSPEL OF JOHN– HOW DOES IT SPEAK TO US TODAY?

The Gospel of John emerges as the most unique Gospel in the New Testament. How is this so? Why does Jesus dialogue so much more and share so deeply with others, especially women? This presentation will address such questions and offer insights into the relevance of this Gospel for today.

 Sat: Aug 29, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.($15)

Living out the Gospel value of stewardship as a disciple means sharing your time, talent, and treasure.

Why?

Because everything you have to share is from God, and it is all meant for sharing.  Being a disciple means sharing without counting the cost.  Being a disciple means sharing even when we least feel like it, when we least can afford to do it, and when the person in need of our gift is the last person we wish to serve
