As part of the Statewide Initiative for Marriage
Protection, all parishioners in the Diocese of Metuchen are asked to
reflect on the true meaning of marriage and show your concern to our New Jersey
State legislators by signing the Petition to Preserve the Definition of
Marriage, which states:
“We, the undersigned
parishioners, petition our members of the New Jersey General Assembly and
Senate to preserve the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one
woman The institution of marriage existed long before any government, religion
or law. The Civil Union Act (NJ Statutes
37:1-28) Chapter 103 of the laws of 2006 was enacted to give same
sex couples all the same rights and benefits as married couples. Signatures will be collected after all
Masses.
Peter’s Pence Collection
Today we recall the
apostolic journey of Pope Benedict XVI
to the
United States and his call to us to cast the light of
Christ upon the world. We can show our solidarity with the
Holy
Father and our suffering brothers and sisters abroad
through our support of this week’s
Collection. These funds
allow him to provide
emergency assistance to victims of
war, disaster, oppression,
and disease.
Please be
as generous as your means allow in today’s

“FAMILY DAY”
A DAY TO EAT DINNER WITH YOUR CHILDREN
All families are encouraged to celebrate Family Day by eating dinner together on Monday, September 28th and everyday. Family Day embodies the values and teachings of the Church. Starting a Sunday ritual of attending Mass and sharing a meal as a family is a meaningful tradition that will increase parental engagement and communication with your children. Plus teens who attend religious services once a week are at a substantially lower risk for substance abuse. Start a family tradition of beginning family meals with a prayer or by lighting candles. More importantly, talk with your children.

Parish Retreat
Father Richard
J. Kehoe, C.M. of the Vincentian Parish Mission Apostolate will preach a
mission entitled
“Christians in
the Eyes of Jesus.”
The Parish
Retreat will begin on September 27 and end on October 1, 2009 and will take
place in the church starting at 7:00 PM each evening.
Father Kehoe
will also preach at the
morning Masses.
Plan
to attend the retreat and bring a friend.
A man went in for a brain
transplant operation and was offered a choice of two brains by the
surgeon. He could choose either a
teacher’s brain which would cost him $10,000 or a politician’s brain which would cost $100,000. “Does that mean that the politician brain is
much better than the teacher’s? asked
the clearly puzzled man. No not
exactly,” replied the surgeon. “The
politician’s brain has never been used so it’s almost like new.
WHERE ARE WE?
Two tourists were
driving through Wisconsin. As they were
approaching Oconomowoc, they started arguing about the pronunciation of the
town’s name. They argued back and forth
until they stopped for lunch. As they
stood at the counter, one tourist asked the blonde employee, “Before we order,
could you please settle an argument for us?
Would you please pronounce where we are...very slowly?” The blonde girl leaned over the counter and
said, “Burrrrr, gerrrrrr, Kiiiing.”
