Parish Retreat at Our Lady of Mercy

Father Richard J. Kehoe, C.M. of the Vincentian Parish Mission Apostolate will preach a mission entitled

“Christians in the Eyes of Jesus.”

The Parish Retreat will begin on September 27 and end on October 1, 2009 and will take place in the church starting at 7:00 PM each evening.

Father Kehoe will also preach at the

morning Masses.

Plan to attend the retreat and bring a friend.

Petition Drive This Weekend

September 26th & 27th

As part of the Statewide Initiative for Marriage Protection, all parishioners in the Diocese of Metuchen are asked to reflect on the true meaning of marriage and show your concern to our New Jersey State legislators by signing the Petition to Preserve the Definition of Marriage, which states:

 

“We, the undersigned parishioners, petition our members of the New Jersey General Assembly and Senate to preserve the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman The institution of marriage existed long before any government, religion or law.  The Civil Union Act (NJ Statutes 37:1-28) Chapter 103 of the laws of 2006 was enacted to give same sex couples all the same rights and benefits as married couples. 

Future Staffing of Parishes

in the Diocese of Metuchen

For some years the Diocese of Metuchen has been actively examining various options for addressing the care of our parishes in light of future projections of population growth and the number of priests available for active ministry. The Task Force for the Future Staffing of Parishes has produced an informative video presentation on its work to date entitled, Future Staffing of Parishes in the Diocese of Metuchen: Assessing the Challenges, Recommending a Response. L-i-f-e C-h-a-i-n

October 4th, 2:00-3:30 pm  “The purpose of Life Chain is to provide a visual statement of solidarity by our local community that abortion is grievously wrong and that we are opposed to the killing of unborn children.”.

Life Chain is a peaceful, prayerful demonstration in opposition to abortion and other attacks on human life. This year’s chain will be held in Somerville. Our Lady of Mercy participants will be directed to Mountain Ave. between West End Ave. and Immaculate Conception Church.

Please don’t forget to bring a gift for the Pregnancy Aid Center. Pampers, new baby clothes, gently used or new baby items and any form of donation is always appreciated.

60th Anniversary Mass

& Celebration

Bishop Bootkoski will help us celebrate our special anniversary by celebrating 12 Noon Mass. Everyone in the parish is invited

to attend this Mass.

 

A luncheon will take place after Mass at the Holiday Inn on Davidson Ave. in Somerset. Tickets are $40 each and will be sold after all Masses on September 26 & 27.

 

Please come and celebrate Mass with our parish and the Bishop and please help us celebrate afterwards at the Holiday Inn.

Rosary Altar Society News

Calling All Women of the Parish

The Rosary Altar Society Day of Renewal will be held at the Shrine of St. Joseph in Sterling, October 18.  We will meet in the church parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and will return approximately 4:00 p.m.

The day will begin with prayer, opening remarks and conference. There will be an opportunity for confession, recitation of the Rosary. Free time to visit the outdoor Shrine and Stations of the Cross with Liturgy in the Chapel.

Please join us in honoring our Blessed Mother.

Religious Education News

At all religious education classes on September 27th, CCD teachers will hand out a Schedule of Classes for the school year 2009-2010, the Religious Education Handbook and the Mass Attendance Card.

Please post the Schedule of Classes on your refrigerator, please read and sign the front page of the Education Handbook and please have your child know they need to have their Attendance Card signed by Father every time they attend Mass.

Please help us get your children the Religious Education training you want your children to have.
