Isaiah, a man of unclean lips, beholds the Lord’s glory in the temple and is sent on mission. Simon, a sinner, responds to the mission of Jesus by becoming a disciple. Paul, the persecutor, speaks of his call to preach nothing but Christ crucified and risen.

Stewardship

In today’s readings, both Isaiah and Peter hear the call of God and feel themselves unworthy. But, reassured by the Lord, both answer and follow.  Do I hear the Lord asking, “Whom shall I send?” Am I prepared to answer, “Here I am. Send me!”?

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS

For those who are ill, especially:

Jo Ann Harbager, James Esposito, Peter Beckman

and Josephine Sarnoski that their suffering and trials may become sources of grace for themselves and others.

As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s

varied grace.

Your Donations at Work

Haiti & the CRS (from The Catholic Spirit)

Here are some highlights of the work of the Catholic Relief Services staff in Haiti:

• Within a week of the earthquake, CRS unloaded 2,100 metric tons of vegetable oil and grain.

CRS is the lead agency in operating a camp at a Port-au-Prince golf course, where as many as 50,000 people sleep each night.

CRS has formed six medical teams to provide health care at shelters and area hospitals.

CRS is also the lead agency for coordinating relief efforts in the town of Légoane, due west of the capital, with responsibilities for basic human needs (food, water, non-food items).

World Marriage Day

World Marriage Day is a time to honor the faithfulness and joy of daily married life and the positive impact it has on our society, community, Church, and Nation. It honors husband and wife as head of the family and basic unit of society. Celebrated on the second Sunday in February, it is a great time to let your spouse know how much you love them and make a conscious choice to stay in a committed marriage relationship.

Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

Bishop Bootkoski will lead a pilgrimage to the Holy Land from October 12-22, 2010.  The itinerary will include visits to all the most significant sites associated with life and ministry of Jesus: Bethlehem, Nazareth, Cana, the Sea of Galilee, the Mount of the Beatitudes, Mount Tabor, and Jerusalem.  Also scheduled are visits to the ancient fortress of Massada and the Qumran caves, site of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.  The cost of the pilgrimage is $3,500 (double occupancy) and registration will be limited.  For a brochure, please call the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 732-562-2440.  For more information, please call Great Experiences, Inc., 201-825-3725.

Catholic Spirit Renewal Drive

In your envelope packet this month is an envelope asking you to subscribe to the diocesan newspaper, The Catholic Spirit.
