All
nations are invited to sing the Lord’s praises (1, Ps) for they have been
called to hear the good news (2) and worship the long awaited Messiah and King
(3) with the gift of their lives.
Stewardship
The
three kings in today’s Gospel traveled a great distance at considerable cost to
offer their richest gifts to the Infant Jesus. How far will I go and what will
I offer to do homage to this newborn King and Savior?

** Vocations Awareness Week * January 8-12 **
From the desk of Rev. Randy J. Vashon, Director of Vocations
I pray
that all parishes will be willing to celebrate this week so that all
parishioners will be made more aware of their responsibility to pray for and
encourage vocations to the priesthood and religious life. It is important that
we all work together to promote and encourage vocations.

What Does the Word Epiphany Mean?
The word epiphany comes from the Greek noun epiphaneia, which means
"manifestation." In the
ancient Greco-Roman world, an epiphany referred to the appearance of one of the
gods to mortals. Since kings and emperors
were considered by many to be divine, an epiphany could also describe the visit
of a king. The Epiphany of our Lord is
the Christian festival that celebrates the many ways through signs, miracles,
and preaching that Jesus Christ manifested Himself to the world as God
Incarnate and King of kings.

Cell Phone
vs. Bible
(Thanks to
Rita Stryshak for this one-it’s excellent)
I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bibles
like we treat our cell phones?
·
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?
·
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?
·
What if we flipped through it several times a day?
·
What if we used it to receive messages from the text?
·
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?
·
What if we gave it to kids as gifts?
·
What if we used it as we traveled?
·
What if we used it in case of an emergency?
·
What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?
Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we
don't ever have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus
already paid the bill!
Did you know that the nearest star, our own Sun, is 8
½ light minutes away & ago?
The next nearest star, Proxima Centauri, is 4.2 light
years away & ago.
A light year is 60x60x24x365x181,000 = Miles. Most
calculators are incapable of computing that figure.
