Stewardship

The three kings in today’s Gospel traveled a great distance at considerable cost to offer their richest gifts to the Infant Jesus. How far will I go and what will I offer to do homage to this newborn King and Savior?

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF OUR PARISHIONERS who are sick at home, in the hospital or in nursing homes, especially for John Vanderhoff, Tony Gangitano, David King, Mary Pokotello, John & Peter Foxwell, Haley Weber, Frank Stashak, Blanche Ferarro, Josephine Sarnoski, and Elizabeth Connelly, Kippy Hale,

What Does the Word Epiphany Mean?

The word epiphany comes from the Greek noun epiphaneia, which means "manifestation."  In the ancient Greco-Roman world, an epiphany referred to the appearance of one of the gods to mortals.  Since kings and emperors were considered by many to be divine, an epiphany could also describe the visit of a king.  The Epiphany of our Lord is the Christian festival that celebrates the many ways through signs, miracles, and preaching that Jesus Christ manifested Himself to the world as God Incarnate and King of kings.

Cell Phone vs. Bible

(Thanks to Rita Stryshak for this one-it’s excellent)

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bibles like we treat our cell phones?

·         What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

·         What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

·         What if we flipped through it several times a day?

·         What if we used it to receive messages from the text?

·         What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it?

·         What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

·         What if we used it as we traveled?

·         What if we used it in case of an emergency?

·         What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phone, we don't ever have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill!

Did you know that the nearest star, our own Sun, is 8 ½ light minutes away & ago?

The next nearest star, Proxima Centauri, is 4.2 light years away & ago.

A light year is 60x60x24x365x181,000 = Miles. Most calculators are incapable of computing that figure.

Why is Epiphany Such a Special Day & Season

During this season, Christians meditate on many of our Lord's epiphanies. Epiphany Day itself commemorates the arrival of the Magi in Bethlehem to worship the Messiah and bring Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh (see Matthew 2:1-12).  Since the earliest days of the church, these wise men have been considered to be representatives of all the peoples of the earth.  By means of a miraculous star, God showed them that Jesus was born to be not only the King of the Jews, but the Lord and Savior of all nations.
