MASS        Prop  Gl  Cr  Easter Pf I-V  Sol Bl

RDGS        51: Acts 13:14,43-52  Ps 100:1-2,3,5

                  Rv 7:9,14b-17  Jn 10:27-30

Know that Jesus is the Lord (Ps), the Lamb on the throne who will shepherd his flock and give them eternal life (2.3). In his name, Paul and Barnabas proclaim the word of God to Jew and Gentile alike (1).

Stewardship

Paul and Barnabas encountered both violent rejection and joyful acceptance of the message that they preached. We, too, may meet with mixed reactions when we use our gifts in the service of God. But, the Gospel assures us, the reward for those who follow faithfully is eternal life.

·         The Catholic Church in Central and Eastern Europe is working in 28 countries to build the pastoral capacity of the Church. Together, we are bringing the light of God’s love to places once covered by a pall of darkness. Our contributions will help build parishes, supports seminaries, social service programs, youth ministry, pastoral centers, church construction and spreading of the Gospel in many distant and unknown places in Central and Eastern Europe.

·         The Catholic Home Missions Appeal support those Catholics in the US where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate children in the faith. Q: Why do X's at the end of a letter signify kisses?

A: In the Middle Ages, when many people were unable to read or write, documents were often signed using an X. Kissing the X represented an oath to fulfill obligations specified in the document. The X and the kiss eventually became synonymous.

Q: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast?

A: It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would then just touch or clink the host's glass with his own.
