Continuing the Mission of Christ

 

When you contribute to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal you are helping:

Hospitalized people and their families who are visited by Hospital Chaplains.

Couples preparing for marriage, married couples, families interested in adoption, separated and divorced individuals, and the bereaved – all who are ministered to by the Office of Family Life.

Thousands of people in need who receive assistance in the form of transitional housing, food pantries and health centers operated through Catholic Charities.

Special Diocesan Collection

December 13th and 14th  

Retirement Fund for Religious

The second collection on December 13th & 14th  benefits elderly women and men religious. More than 19,000 religious have less than 20 percent of the amount needed for projected costs of living and healthcare.

The average Catholic sister, brother, or order priest remains in active ministry until age 74. Today, 37,870 women and men religious are past age 70 and need our help with the current high cost of living and health care.

The Catholic Church assists the financial need of elderly religious through the national appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious. Today, 5,452 women and men religious need skilled nursing care that costs an average of $49,850 each. Please be generous.

Sacred Heart Advent Retreats

Sacred Heart Church in Manville will be holding their annual Advent Retreats. The English Retreat will run from Saturday/Sunday, December 6/7 through Thursday, December 11th. The Polish Retreat will begin on Sunday, December 14th and run through Wednesday, December 17th.

The Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea

December 21st at 2pm  St. Ann’s Church proudly presents the Rev. Alphonse Stephenson’s Orchestra of Saint Peter by the Sea at the Somerset County Vo-Tech School, in Bridgewater, NJ. Fr. Stephenson, is world renown and his concerts are usually a SOLD OUT event.

Annual Christmas Luncheon

Holy Name & CCD Society News

In conjunction with the contest sponsored by the Diocese of Metuchen, Our Lady of Mercy’s Holy Name Society is sponsoring a poster contest for our 1-8 grade CCD students and a poetry contest for our 6th, 7th, & 8th grade CCD students. The winners in each grade will receive a $10 cash prize. The place winners will also be entered into the Diocesan annual Pro-life poster/poetry contest for Religious Education students.

For more information and the complete set of rules, please read the notice each child in CCD has received from their CCD teachers.

All entries must be back to their respective CCD teachers no later than January 25th, 2009.
