September 22nd
is “Family Day”
All families are encouraged to celebrate Family
Day by eating dinner together on Sept. 22nd and everyday. More
importantly, talk with your children. During dinner, turn off the TV and let
the answering machine record your calls. Involve the entire family in planning
and cooking the meal if possible. Start a family tradition of beginning family
meals with a prayer or by lighting candles. Remember to have dessert or
consider playing a board game after dinner to keep the conversations going.
The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse
(CASA) at Columbia University has consistently shown that the more often
children eat with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or
use illegal drugs. Visit www.CASAFamilyday.org
for more information.
